We have used the classic chrome Hamilton Beach Set 'n Forget Programmable Slow Cooker now for a month and can't imagine not having it now. We replaced a ancient Rival that worked fine but looked it's age and was a pain to clean and store. The programmable controller on the Set 'n Forget is very easy to operate and the horizontal oval design lets you lay a chicken or roast flat. The exterior finish, lid and removable pot are easy to clean.

We have never had a programming issue or unknown failure to cook as stated in another review although we haven't experienced an extended power failure while cooking. We have had a power blip or two which didn't cause a loss of programming. The unit confirms that it is cooking immediately after you enter your program. The low temp "keep warm" feature is very nice. I hope it lasts as long as the Rival crock pot.

I love this slow-cooker! It is nice and roomy, so if you are looking for a cooker that can accommodate a lot of food, this is the one! I like that there are several temperature settings, a timer, is programmable and has a temperature probe. I've made everything from barbecued pork recipes to chili to rice dishes and bread in this and everything has turned out perfectly. It had a nice look to it with the black and silver. I am not ashamed to leave it sitting out on my black granite counter, as it looks like it is part of the decor. The lid is interesting. It has clips that you can leverage to hold the lid on, I suppose if you were going to take it somewhere and didn't want it to spill in the car. I think it also helps when making rice and bread in adding a steam factor.

They were a little tricky to get used to at first but now I view it as an added feature and wouldn't have it any other way. The price for the size and quality(this is built very solidly and has nice, easy-to-use digital controls) is excellent. After comparison shopping, I don't think I could have done better. Cleans up easily, the inner crock goes right in the dishwasher. I highly recommend, especially if you do alot of meal maker slow-cooking.

I love this slow cooker. I have a Rival brand 3 1/2 qt cooker received as a wedding gift 28 years ago. It still works great, but I needed a larger capacity. I tried two other 5 - 6 qt slow cookers, each a different brand, but they cooked way too fast, so I returned them. The whole point of slow cooking is to allow me to leave the house and not have to stand over the cooker. This cooker, so far, has fit the bill. I have used the probe feature more than I had thought that I would, and it is great.

I used it to roast a whole chicken, and the cooker switched to "warm" mode once it reached the desired temp. It was simple to place the removable crock into the oven to brown the chicken before serving. I also used the probe when reheating a large amount of "dirty rice"; just set the probe to 165 F and again it switched to "warm" and maintained the proper temp until serving time. The programming is simple to use. The lid locks down and forms a spill-proof seal for transporting liquids. Can't beat the price for the features.
